I know Nutral: N.C. isn’t thе best dog food out thеrе, аnԁ ѕіnсе price саn bе a bit οf a problem I know thе better brands Ɩіkе "Taste οf thе Wild" аnԁ "Blue Buffalo" саn bе a bit expensive. I рƖοt tο switch dog foods аѕ soon аѕ I саn fοr mу 1 1/2 year ancient healthy female Pomeranian аnԁ I wаѕ wondering іf Beneful іѕ аt Ɩеаѕt a better сhοісе οf food thаn Nutro іѕ? If nοt, whаt іѕ better thаn Nutro, bυt nοt tοο expensive?

Nutro brand formulae are primarily based on rice ingredients such as rice bran, ground rice (including whole brown rice among the top five ingredients). The protein sources often come from chicken or lamb. (So are many other healthy-sounding brands touted by major corporations).

Nutro MAX and Nutro ULTRA (Mars Foods) were also involved in the pet food "posioning" fiasco / recall in 2007 due to Melamine poisoning. I lost 2 dogs then, directly attributed to this. Their third product is Natural Choice. That said, there might have been improvements since then, but it would not be my first choice, thoughthere are far worse ‘bargain’ foods available.

Bottom line – Dogs cannot read – all marketing is directed toward us, the consumers (i.e., the caretakers of pets). These ads. are slicker than graphite. There are some fantastic foods out there with no artificial colors, flavors, fillers & meat by-products, etc. from rendering plants.

It pays to feed the pet excellent quality food – it may be expensive but in the long run, there are lesser complications (for example, allegires that can take months & numerous test to isolate…lacking definitive answers).

Beneful is rated a 1/6 stars among dome dog food reviews. The company tries to make it look like a excellent premium dog food but it is NOT. They list ingredients in dog food by its content – Corn is way up there.. Corn is not any excellent for dogs, they can have allergies from it above and beyond not being able to properly digest it. It also has added coloring in it.

Reckon about it – Why does a dog food need coloring? Food colorings are highly debated and known to cause many cancers and other shape risks – but then again, dogs don’t read, people should but often ignore marks (minly due to price).

You can basically find a better, higher quality food for a higher price. Find something lacking added colors and corn, soy, or cheap grain. Meat as the first ingredient is a fantastic indicator (not meat by-products).

It may be expensive, but the pet eats less over the years, it’s more digestible & compatible with their system & the likelihood of allergies is reduced

Most or any of the following are brilliant: Blue Buffalo, Innova, Welless, Solid Gold, Canidae, Natural Balance, Timberwolf Organics, California Natural. If there’s one lesson for us it is READ THE LABEL. In the long run, your dog will thank you & you’ll be pleased! Best of luck to you & your caninne unit!!

  2. Bare Nekkid TRUTH!

    beneful is pure GARBAGE

one of their fomulas doesnt even have "meat" in it.. the closest business it had to meat was "animal stout".

ALL dry and canned foods for dogs and cats is processed junk, it’s all loaded with chemicals and preservatives, the ‘meat’ used in ALL dry and canned foods is the garbage slaughterhouse byproducts that even the hot dog makers won’t buy such as the noses, genitals, feet, etc.

If any dry or canned food was made with all muscle meat, first quality, human quality it would be so expensive nobody could afford to buy it.

I don’t care what the name brand is or what the categorize says or what the ingredients are ALL dry and canned dog and cat food is highly processed garbage. If it were the real deal it would require refrigeration while in the store and at home.

You COOK for your dogs and cats. It’s not as expensive as you might reckon and you cook a whole bunch and then store in zip bags or containers in the freezer in smaller parts and simply thaw and feed or thaw and heat and feed.

Chicken, beef, turkey, lamb, rice, oatmeal, potatoes, peas, green beans, carrots, colorless fish, and tons more, you COOK for your dogs and cats.

The rates of all cancers in our dogs and cats is at an all time high and it’s in large part due to the processed junk we place in them. Also the rates of diabetes and kidney failure in our dogs and cats is at an all time high despite the overpriced ‘premium’ processed foods.

Don’t pay $75.00 for a 27.5 lb bag of processed junk, place that cash into real foods and some human food safe freezer bags or containers and get cooking!

There are hundreds of cookbooks for dogs and cats, many written by veterinarians. Buy a few and get cooking.

Not by a long shot ..

Just look at the ingredients list – artificial colours and sugar!

They are both LOADED with Carbohydrates…SOOO BAD for your dog. Holistic vets recommend raw food (introduced slowly). You dont’ have to feed them all raw meat, but its really excellent to have that in their diet because it is the most natural. In the wild a dog would eat raw meat. ITs also REALLY excellent for keeping their teeth clean andyou can even feed most dogs the raw meat frozen…its kinda like a doggy popsicle (the raw meat comes frozen when you buy it at a vet clinic). THis has been shown to help dogs be less prone to developing weird allergies or weird "hot a skin condition". It also has helped a few dogs I know that were prone to seizures, or weird symptoms lacking any causes. Diet is extremely vital for maintaining any animals shape!

Beneful is NOT a excellent food! Nutro is OK, but at least it is better then Beneful! If cash is an issue, check out Diamond Naturals, it is sold at feed stores and it is reasonably priced! Diamond is the company that makes Taste of the Wild, Chicken Soup for the dog lovers Soul, and Costco’s brand Kirkland! It is A LOT better quality then Beneful, and it comes in different formula’s one being Sm./Toy breed! The Kirkland brand sold at Costco is excellent, & affordable as well!! Hope this helps, Excellent Luck!!

I fed my previous dog Nutro for many years and he did very well with it. He had dry skin and the rice blend Nutro did wonders for him. I can’t really tell you anything about Beneful, but I place my new dog on Orijen dog food. The quality of it is right up there with the really excellent stuff, but the excellent stuff has way too much protein and not enough of anything else so it caused diarrhea, but the Orijen didn’t and she likes it. I have a small dog (Toy Poodle) and she doesn’t really eat much so the price was nearly like buying the Nutro. I can’t presume a Pomeranian eats too much either so it shouldn’t be too high-priced for you either. Talk to the people at a real pet store, not like PetSmart because they don’t really sell any fantastic quality dog foods. I went to Benson’s pet store (I don’t know if you have one in your area), but the clerk there knew a lot about dog foods and they guarantee all their foods so if your dog gets diarrhea, or just doesn’t like the food, you can bring it back and get a refund and they take the food back no matter what, for any reason and refund your cash. Shop around for a real pet store in your area to see if they sell Orijen.

You have a Pomeranian– they are small dogs that don’t eat much, so get the more expensive brand foods that are better quality. I mean really, how often would you have to buy dog food for such a modest guy? You spend way more on food for yourself.

  9. Dances With Woofs!

NO WAY!! Natural Choice is 100 times better than Beneful!! If you want something excellent but decently priced, try Diamond Naturals Small Breed Adult.

Nutro is slightly better than Beneful, but not much. If cash is a problem, the lowest priced halfway decent food is PetSmart’s brand, Authority.
